Día de la Mujer 2009 

 

On March 6th the ARISE Network and Advocacy Coordinator, Lupita Santana, organized a march with the help of women from the colonia community to celebrate International Day of the Woman, Día de la Mujer.  Day of the Woman is marked on March 8 every year. It is a major day of global celebration for the economic, political and social achievements of women.   This year the theme was women and men united to end violence against women and girls.  ARISE also focused on families united; ending immigration raids that separate families!  The ARISE Staff, women from the colonia community, and  other local organizations (LUPE, Mano a Mano, and Mercy Corporate Presence)  walked down the streets of colonia South Tower reminding women of their value, rights, strength, and the importance of unity.  ARISE would like to thank all who participated in this special event.
